Resource Centre - View Availability

Hey Gang,

We have started using this feature within our organization but there
is a "grey" spot when using the View Availability function unless you
have your projects setup perfectly to the minute. If I am working on
two projects at the same time, and I am assigned on different tasks
within the two projects. When you check my availability in the
resource centre it will show that I work an 8 hour day and will be
working 16 hours on a specific day since I have two tasks assigned to
me at the same time. How we setup our projects within our
organization are simply by days which is probably the generic
standard:

ie: Implement new hardware - 3 days
Implement new software - 2 days

So this shows that I am implementing hardware for 3 straight 8 hour
shifts which and not working on any other tasks. This is incorrect, so
would like to hear what some others have done to modify the View
Availability function in the Resource Centre and if there is a way to
change the table and remove the hours from the left and maybe
substitute it with something else. What are your thoughts and can
this be done?

This really comes down to a garbage in, garbage out situation. The system
can't know the workload unless you input it. Planning by duration only will
never yield accurate loading and availability information. If you want this,
you need to switch to effort-based planning.

My response is this: "Why aren't your project managers assigning you with
Units that reflect that you won't be working full-time on each task?" I
think you see what you think is a flaw in the View Availability function,
when it is a flaw with how your PM's assign resources to tasks. In your
example, your PM should assign you to 50% Units on each task, which shows
you will be working full-time between the two tasks. Just a thought. Hope
this helps.

Hi,

Just as a precision, the "generic standard" is the minute.

ok better question is, is it possible to change the view availability
graph to respresent something other than hours on one of the axis?
