Resource Cost - two projects

S

Simon Clayton

I have a Resources working on two different projects - one
project in Canada, one project in the US. Each Resource
has an "A" rate and a "B" rate. I want to apply the "A"
rate to the Canadian project and the "B" rate to the US
project.

Q. Is there a way I can apply the caor rate ("A" or "B")
to the project? I seem to be able to only apply the rate
at the task level?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Hi Simon,

Unfortunately cost rate tables are used per resource
assignment per task.
The only work around that I could come up with would be
to add a custom column (Text1 etc.) to one of the task
tables and use that column to record location (Canada or
US).
Then from the task usage view, sort the project by the
custom column to place all of the tasks from each
location together. You could then select the assignment
rows for the resource in question (CTRL + click to select
multiple rows) and using the Information button apply the
cost rate table to the selected assignments.
You can also show the Cost Rate Table field in the Task
Usage view to change/confirm each rate table in use on
that assignment.
I hope someone comes up with a more elegant answer than
this one. :-D

Here's a technique I have used successfully to quickly change the Cost Rate
Table used for an entire project:

1. Open a US project in which the Cost Rate Table B needs to be applied to
every assignment
2. Click View - Task Usage
3. Right-click on the Work column header than click Insert Column from the
shortcut menu
4. Select the Cost Rate Table field and click OK
5. Click Edit - Replace
6. Enter A in the "Find what" field and and enter B in the "Replace with"
field
7. Select the "Look in field" dropdown list and select the Cost Rate Table
field
8. Select the "Test" dropdown list and select Equals
9. Click the Replace All button

Using this technique, you can quickly change the Cost Rate Table setting for
all task assignments across the entire project. Believe me, it is a lot
easier doing this than changing every Cost Rate Table value for every
assignment. Hope this helps!

I haven't tried this myself but look at the MS project web site for the Euro
conversion tool addin. While billed as a tool for projects costed in Euros
I seem to recall that is actually is a tool that allows you to cost your
projects in two different currencies. Worth taking a look at at any rate.
