Resource from different departments

Hi,
In my enterprise resource table I want to show the same type of resource e.g
Unix Specialist and then different departments e.g. Operations, Consulting,
Services, Engineering. When the PM is planning the project, I want them to
select the resource and then select the department they expect the resource
to come from.

Apart from having multiple resources such as Unix Specialist-OPS, Unix
Specialist-CON, Unix Specialist-ENG I can't see any way of doing this.
Thoughts?

Further to this I have read up some more and note there are some Enterprise
Resource Multi Value fields - can I use these?
Also, I am using only generic resources for planning purposes.

What is your goal here? I think you likely answered your own question when
you stated that you need to create a generic resource for each combination.

Hi Gary,

The end goal is to produce a resource forecast for different departments;
these departments are not using Project Server and hence the resources are
all generic. I have a SQL script that extracts all the projects and resources
and provides a 6 week forecast by hours/week of each resource. However it is
possible that the same type of resource may come from a number of departments
and hence I need the PM to sepcify department when selecting the resource. I
have solved this by using the Enterprise Resource Multi-Value fields
(Resource Outline Code number 20) and creating a Look Up table.

Your PS admin can set an enterprise custom field for resources as the
department field. Then he/she will have to update every resource in
your enterprise resource pool. Make sure he/she makes it a required
field to ensure new resources are assigned a department correctly
