Resource Groups

I would like to have named individuals assigned to a group
name and be able to filter or display on resouce graph
using group names.

e.g. joe bloggs, jim smith represented as the group
engineer, tim jones, jane stewart represented as group
electrician etc

This will allow me to book individual holidays etc and
assign individuals to projects but still to display
resource availability for each group.

Is this possible on Project 98? I don't think so. Is it
available on later editions?

In the resource sheet there is a "group" column that is for exactly that
purpose. You can make up any group definitions you choose and you can sort,
group, or filter on the contents of that field. I'm pretty sure it's
available in P98 but it's been a while since I worked with that release so
it's possible my memory is faulty. I know for a fact it's there in Project
2000 and later versions.

This functionality exists in Project Professional 2003
(I'm not sure about earlier editions). There is a Group
field for resources and you can define appropriate values
and filter your Resource Graph (or other) view accordingly.
