Resource hours

I am using MSOP 2007 desktop. I have created a resource pool. Some of my
resources work less than 40 hours per week. I have set their resource
calendar to reflect this.

My question is:
Can I pull how many hours a resource can be used per month? I just want to
know from the calendar perspective, total # of work hours per month. I do
not want to account for any assignments. I need to export this information
for each resource in the pool to excel to do reporting.

Dear Microsoft Office Project User,

I understand your question as to know the total number of hours the resource
is available to the project per month (Requirement #1). Moreover, you don't
want to take into account any assignments (Requirement #2). This information
should be export ready (Requirement #3).

My solution is to create custom reports.
Step 1. Choose Tools > Reports, Custom...
Step 2. Select "Resource Usage" as report and click "Copy" button. Cross tab
Report dialog opens.
Step 3. Provide the report name, for example - Resource Work Availability.
Step 4. In the Cross tab section, select "Months" as the time period in
"Column" (due to Requirement #1).
Step 5. Select "Work Availability" as the field for the cross tab (due to
Requirement #1).
Step 6. Uncheck "And task assignments" (due to Requirement #2)
Step 7. Click OK.

Restriction: This report includes only months during which assignments have
been made to resources. So, you may not be able to view all the months across
the year.

You can customize your current "Resource Usage" view by using the "Zoom In"
and "Zoom Out" option to change the time scale to "Months". Remove all the
row fields except "Work Availabilty" field.

Please let me know if this helps.

BSP,
Yes this is along the lines of what I am looking for, however, I need this
in an extraction to ms excel. Is there a way to export this data for a 12
month period to Excel?
Thanks for your help.

Dear Microsoft Office Project User,

Regarding your requirement about exporting 12-month data to Excel, Microsoft
Office Project 2007 does not offer support for exporting data generated
through Report > Reports ... option to Excel.

There are two options available.
Option 1: Visual Reports
Step 1: Choose Report > Visual Reports
Step 2: Select Resource Usage tab and choose Resource Work Availability report
Step 3: Edit the fields in the report, if required, by clicking Edit
Template button
Step 4: Choose "Months" as the level of usage data to include in the report
Step 5: Choose "View". Report data is reported in Excel and displayed in bar
chart.
Note: You should have Microsoft Office Excel 2003 or above for this to work!

Option 2: Resource Usage
Step 1: Customize the Resource usage as indicated in my previous mailer
Step 2: Select the resource total in the left pane and copy it to Excel.
Step 3: Select the time-phased in the right pane and copy it to Excel.

Please let me know if this helps.

Regards
Sai [PMP]
