Resource Information and Emails

Hi All

I've add the email address in the resource information sheet for each
resource. On checking it brings up the appropriate individuals email address
from the company address list. How would I use this feature? Can I email
tasks directly from MS Project via MS Outlook, request updates on % Complete
or does that require something like MS Project Server? This is for an
individual project only.

Just trying to find some of the new features in MS Project 2003 (yeah I'm
behind the times).

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Cheers, H

Hello Hardip,

In the File menu is an option to Send To a mail recipient as either
an attachment or a schedule note.

Releases of Project prior to 2003 had an email workgroup feature.
The workgroup feature is available as a separate download for 2003,
however it is not supported by Microsoft.

See:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/818337/en-us

for details.

Fuller integration is available with Project Server.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie

Thanks for the link. I downloaded the application and made the registry
changes but can't seem to find any reference to it in the project menu's. I
was expecting to see the workgroup function in the tools menu bar. Any tips?

Do I just create the string and leave the value null?

Thanks for your assistance, H

Hello

Yes I did but can't find the menu option to use the feature :-(

I think its more to do with me, then MS Project - famous last words :)

Hi H,

Okay, if you've installed the WGSetup.exe file and edited the
registry -- have you restarted Project?

It's been quite a long time since I used the workgroup message
handler so I may miss a few things. Once you restart, go to Tools >
Options -- do you have a collaboration tab? You'll need to select
the email collaboration from the drop down list.

Do you have a "Workgroup" command in the Tools menu? Do you now
have a collaborate menu?

Also try stepping through the information in the following KB
article. I think it does a pretty good job detailing the steps
needed.

Hi Julie

I have the email option in the collaboration drop-down. But no workgroup
command in the tools menu bar.

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look and get back to you ;-)

Have a great day, H

Hi Julie

Thanks for the link and I managed to get it working! Shame that this
requires the download to be installed on each computer using the email
functionality. These means it might not be an appropriate standalone
solution for me. However, its good to see the functionality in action for
future reference!

Thanks again, H

I'm glad to hear you were able to get the workgroup mail feature
running. I don't know what's in store for the next release of
Project -- but I'm hoping there is some sort of Project to Outlook
connection for non server use. I guess we'll have to wait until the
Project Conference for a sneak preview.
