Resource leveling across multiple projects

I own multiple schedules on the server, and have done manual resource
leveling with all the project plans opened, saved, and republished all
schedules.

ex: Project A, Project B, and Project C
I open all projects, do the leveling, save, and republish

I close Project A, the resource is listed overallocated (in red( in Project B
I reopen Project A, the resource is not NOT overallocated (turns black)

I understand I need to open all plans for leveling, but do I need to open
all plans to show any future overallocatiosn?

Can you please help understand this problem and is there a solution or a
workaround?

You must open all of the relevent projects to analyze and level resource
overallocations across all projects. One of the tricks I use that helps me
to rapidly open all of my projects is to open each of them in Project
Professional 2003, and then click File - Save Workspace. Save the Project
Workspace file in your My Documents folder or someplace handy. The next
time you need to open all of your projects, simply open the Project
Workspace file, and the system will open each of your projects for you.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick response.

I am not sure if it answered my question. I am not asking for an easy way
to open all projects.

This is what confuses me:

If I open Project A -> Go to Resource sheet -> Resource A is overallocated
(in red)

If I open all projects, Project A, Project B, Project C -> Go to Resource
sheet -> Resource A and the rest of the resources are NOT overallocated (it
does not show any of the resources in red)

Why is that the resources do not appear in red, indicating overallocation if
I open all projects? As soon as I close one of the plans, say Project C, the
resource turns red. Is there a disconnect?

As per leveling, I need to open all projects that the resource is assigned
to do leveling to fix overallocation.

I tried what you said, saved it

Hi,

It is usually best to do resource leveling within a single project - and even then with caution. Consider a different approach where you do resource balancing by adjusting the assignment units for resources on projects that are open simultaneously. This works quite well!! Check out this white paper which lays out both methods.
