Resource leveling question

Senbag

Do we need to publish the project schedule to the server before leveling with
multiple projects open?
Any help is appreciated.

I think it would be most experts recommendation in this newsgroup to not
using the automatic leveling tool provided Microsoft Project. It is
recommended to level your projects manually.

Before you level multiple projects, I would recommend that you close all
projects and then exit Project Professional 2007. When you relaunch the
software, deselect the "Load summary resource assignments" option in the
Login dialog and then click OK. Now you can open each of the projects in
which you have resources overallocated across the projects and level
successfully without "interference" from projects you do not have open.
Although I do not see the Publish operation as "mission critical" to your
leveling operation, it certainly would not hurt. Also, I would recommend
that you using the Resource Usage view for leveling your overallocated
resources, as this will allow you to level overallocated resources either
individually or in groups of your choosing. Hope this helps.

Senbag,

you should also check out Dales book. He describes a leveling process that
is the best way of levelling. Most users missunderstand leveling. Once they
read Dales book and the section about leveling it becomes cristal clear.

The book you need is the "Ultimate Learning Guide to Microsoft Office
Project 2007." There are two sections in the book that concern leveling.
The first section teaches you how to apply a leveling methodology to level
overallocated resources. The second section gives you advanced techniques
for leveling. Thanks for asking! Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

thanks for your answer!

We have Project 2003. Works the leveling in Project 2007 in the same way as
in 2003?

Yes, leveling works the same. The book will also help you if you migrate to
Project 2007. Hope this helps.
