Resource Leveling/Remaining Work/Resource Usage View

Shawn Everingham

Project A is a short, operational type of plan. These plans run for a quarter
and contain operational type activities, like meetings, quarterly goals, etc.

Project B is utilizing Resource Z, whom is also an enterprise resource on
Project A.

In Project B, the Resource Usage View shows Resource Z to still have work
planned for Project A. Resource Usage View shows allocated time for Resource
Z into the future, yet Project A shows all tasks to have Zero Remaining Work
and ALL tasks 100% complete. Project A has been saved and published several
times. Project A resource usage sheet shows no work for Project A for
Resource Z. I have even gone to the Resource Center in PWA and selected
Resource Z then View Availability. Even Project Server shows that this
project still has work assigned to Resource Z and has allocated work into the
future for Project A.

What gives? how can I effectively level a resource, if all plans including
the server, show enterprise resource Z to have work...although the source
plan is 100% complete????

Help???? Thanks!

If you want to level resource overallocations across Project A and Project
B, you must open both projects. Hope this helps.

we have them both opened. why doesn't one reflect the changes in the other?

why is this resource still allocated to the task? why does this resource
still have planned work, when the task has 0hrs remaining work and is 100%
complete?

At the very least, Project Server/resource center should reflect it
correctly...NOT.

Thanks, but any other suggestions?

You have published both of the projects? Yes? If not, please do so, then
close each of the projects and reopen them. I have never seen this behavior
and I'm wondering what might be wrong.

Shawn,

It sounds like Project A is an administrative type shcedule, is that
correct? Could having the task 100% complete, and all remaining work set to
zero, yet having the actual finish date in the future be causing what you are
seeing? If the task was updated as planned and the actual finish date is in
the future there will be work in the future. Something to check.

Dale,

we have done all the above. First thing I did after double checking this
PM's remaining work and 100% complete, was to save and publish both projects.

Opened them both back up. Wasn't happy with what I saw...went to resource
center and checked the resource there...something ain't right.

Thanks for your quick replies.

grrrr!.. still, the resources are showing planned work into the future...even
though all dates on my plan end at 3/31/08, all tasks have zero remaining
work, all tasks are 100% complete, no resource plan associated with this
plan...

what gives??????? MSPS is going to be the death of me.
