Resource Leveling

Does anyone know a way to disable "Level Resources" in Project 2003 and/or
2007? (We're using Project Professional 2003 and are considering upgrading.)
Currently, we have limited the number of Professional users (who have been
instructed that automatic leveling should not be used), mostly because we
want to avoid problems with the resource pool. Any ideas or suggestions would
be appreciated.

You could modify the user's menus and remove the command. That
would probably stop anyone except the most vehement leveler. Tools
Customize > Toolbars and then with the Customize dialog box open,
open the tools menu and drag the Level Resources command off.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

But couldn't they just turn it back on if they want? I was wondering if
there's a way to completely turn it off so that no one can access it at all.
Thanks.

Hello enheduanna,

Yes, they could reset the menu bar to show the command again.
However, unless your users are willfully going against your
organization's requirements, I would think that removing the option
from the menu would handle the "accidental" use of the command.

I don't believe there is a method to remove the command from program
completely. I imagine you could create some VBA code which would
prevent the user from successfully using the command, but then you'd
still run the risk of someone discovering the code, deleting it from
the Global.mpt, and still using the command.

My recommendation is to make this a clearly stated policy and then
make it a training and performance issue.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
