Resource Leveling

Is there a way to level a project to update the resource's
% usage in the Resource Names field on the Gantt Chart,
and not the Start and Finish dates?

The client has a resource assigned to a task at 100% in
the Resource Sheet. The resource was then assigned to
multiple tasks, using the same Start and Finish dates.
The resource % usage was not changed to a lower % when
assigned to tasks. Hence, the resource is assigned to
multiple tasks, during the same time period, all at 100%.

The leveling tool built into Microsoft Project can only level
overallocations using one of two methods: (1) delaying tasks or
assignments, and (2) splitting tasks. It cannot and will not change the
Units on any assignment. Sorry.
