Resource Links to external data

Hi,

Is it possible, somehow, to link an Enterprise Material resource to and
external dataset so that the configuration of that Material Resource can be
changed externally from Project Server?

For example, if my Enterprise Material Resource was a server and my project
was to deploy Windows 2003 Server and Active Directory across 3 sites. I
might need 4 servers (assuming at this stage they were all configured exactly
the same) for the project and would want the latest standard set by the
company. This would be the Server Material Resource held in the Enterprise
Resource Pool and the configuration of which was linked back to the detailed
data (either an Excel spreadsheet, SQL or Access database, doesn't matter
which). This material resource would be owned by the Procurement department
and they would mantain the source data (i.e. the Excel spreadsheet, SQL or
Access database) and the Enterprise Resource Pool would link to this data
source, ensuring that when a project requires this server, it is always using
the latest and greatest standard config.

Is this possible or am I reaching abit too far here ?
