Resource Manager role with respect to the permission to logon to Project Pro ?

It appears the default in Project Server 2007 is for the Resource
Manager to have the (global) permission to logon to Project Server via
Project Professional. If an individual had the RM role and nothing
else, what in the heck would they do with Project Professional?

Hi Andy,
They would be use it to assign resources within Build Team from Enterprise.
The categories would need to be altered so that the RMs can access and save
the projects.

That sounds like the default is screwed up if by default they can't
access and save the projects. Could they just as easily use PWA to
assign resources with Build Team?

one reason that I can see this, is that the resource rates can be plugged in
ONLY thru MSP07. That is, the rate table for each resource for the A,B,C,D,E
rates..

We'll most certainly manage rates and things of that nature centrally,
so probably no reason for the RM to have client login, especially
since each of our RMs will be given the PM role as well. My thinking
is that the RM role will be used for timesheet approvals and the
creation of surrogate timesheets.

Andy:

There's an assumption in the system that if a person is a resource manager,
that they need to add/edit and update resource data. This capability is very
limited with PWA alone. Make sense now?

Yeah, we just ain't gonna let 'em update enterprise resource data - it
isn't that volatile anyway.
