Resource overallocation(2007)

I am about now rounding off a project 2007 implementation but one thing has
bugged my mind from the beginning which what process can be set up to control
resource overallocation and its relation to resource leveling.

Hi,

You can hardly AVOID overallocation: when you overallocate a resource by
assigning it to several tasks that run simultneously, unless resource
leveling is set to automatic, Project simply accepts the overallocation.

So the only way out (in the desktop versions that is) is resource leveling
which will delay some tasks in such a way that the overallocation is
resolved.

Project Server can propose the replacement of a resource by one less charged
(Substitute resources function)

Hope this helps,

in processes:
1. project manager makes a project plan with resources
2. check if any resources are overallocated in this project (and find the
period)
3. resolve within own planning by rescheduling tasks OR find other resource
in that period OR negotiate priorities with other activities in that period.

that's how I instruct my customers. not really big fan of leveling and stuff
:)
