Resource Repeated

I am on Project 2003 server. I have a schedule that somehow has a resource
in the resource sheet that is not assigned anywhere in the schedule. In
fact, this resource was deleted about 6 months BEFORE this schedule was even
built. Here is the hard part - it is repeated 2041 times! Yes, over 2000
times this resource is listed as "Jonathan Wilson Delete 04/25/05". So, if I
try to go in and "cut resource" but it locks up. If I try to go in and
"delete resource" it locks up. I can delete them one at a time manually -
until I get about 1000 done, then it locks up. I have gone into the tables
themselves for web_assignments and this resource isn't listed at all.
Thoughts?

I had the same problem. For the the cause was having the option to publish
on every save enabled. BTW: It is good practive to disable the publish on
every save option!

Here is the fix (listed from memory-- do more research before implementing):

We saved the offending project as an XML file, and then deleted the project
from the server using PWA ->clean up database. We then imported the xml file
to the project server. Be sure to do the import, rather than to "save to
project server". The import option takes you through a wizard where you have
the option to map data fields. Let me know if you need more info
