resource role by task -- without multiple resources per resource?

I'd like to identify the resource role in tasks in my schedule. I'm using MS
Project 2003 and Project Server 2003. In many of the tasks I'd like to
identify who the owner is and who the resource is.

- on task 1 Billy if the owner, Betty is the facilitator, and Bobby is a
resource
- on task 2 Betty is the owner, Billy is the facilitator, and Bobby is a
resource
- on task 3 Bobby is the owner, Billy is the facilitator, and Betty is a
resource

The only way I know to do this is have multiple resources for each resource
-- Billy (owner), Billy (facilitator), Billy (resource). I don't want to have
multiple resources for each resource. How can I do the resource role by task
without having multiple resources per resource?

The best you could do is ask your Project Server administrator to create two
custom enterprise Task outline codes named Owner and Facilitator. Each
outline code should contain the names of all potential Owners/Facilitators.
You won't need to type the names twice, however; you can create the lookup
table in the first outline code and then share it with the second outline
code. After he/she creates these two custom outline codes for you, you can
select an Owner and a Faciliator for each task, as well as assigning a
resource. Hope this helps.

As always, thanks Dale. I have the perms so I can create the two enterprise
task outline codes and populate with names. Then to use the two new outline
codes I could select the names in the custom fields tab of the task info box
-- or add these two fields as columns on my schedule -- correct?

So these two fields contain static names that I input into the two outline
codes? The fields aren't linked to the enterprise resource pool?

I think this will work because our list of resources doesn't change often
and it will meet the requirements of the PM that wants to identify the owner
and facility of some tasks.

To enter the Owner and Facilitator information, I would recommend that you
create a custom enterprise task Table that contains those two custom outline
codes. I would also recommend that you create a new custom enterprise View
that is a copy of the Task Sheet view, and then include the custom Table in
the definition of this new View. Your PM's will then be able to select a
View and enter the information in that View. You might even want to create
two new custom enterprise Groups, one for grouping on Owner, and the other
for grouping on Faciliator. See how easy you would make life for your PM's
by doing this?

Yes, the list of names would be static. There is no way to link it to the
Enterprise Resource Pool. Sorry.

Hope this helps.
