Hello,

I have a problem with one resource of my project.
I create a task with a duration of 1 day and assign it to this
resource. The task is scheduled automaticaly to begin today .
I create another task and assign it to the same resource. Project
instead of apply a delay of 1 day, schedul the task today and then the
resource is overallocated.
If I launch a reallocate resources it not resolve the problem.

thanks.

Do you mean you tried to Resource Level? And nothing happened?
Please clarify.

jserranochacan,
I'm not sure what you mean by, "... launch reallocate resources...", but
it sounds like you expect resource leveling to be automatic and it may
not set for that. Go to Tools/Level Resources and check if leveling is
set for automatic or manual. If it is already set for automatic, check
the other leveling options to insure the tasks can in fact be leveled.

Yes I mean resource leveling. It is set to automatic. In fact with
others resources there are no problem, it is only with two resource.
If I assign the same task to another resource, Project level the
resource automatic. Moreover although I make a resource level all my
resources are leveling correctly except the two resource that have
this problems.

Thanks.

Hi ,

Try changing the setting in the Resource Levelling dialog "Looking for
overallocations on a ..." to a smaller setting like Hour by Hour or Minute
by Minute.

Hi,

the setting in the Resource Levelling dialog "Looking for
overallocations on a ..." is in "Hour by Hour", i have tried the other
values ("day by day", "minute by minute") and not resolve the problem
with these two resources.

My enviroment is "Microsoft Project Server 2003 (SP3)" and "Microsoft
Office Profesionnal 2003 (SP3).

thanks

Have a look at the Resource Usage view and zoom in to try to see what's
going on. Has either of the tasks got a constraint? or Actual data
inserted?

jserranochacon,
In addition to Mike's suggestion, check the resource calendar. Does the
resource calendar "allow" him to work on other days.

Hi,
The constraint of the tasks is "Start No Earlier Than " Today. The
tasks hasn´t actual data inserted. I have check the resource calendar,
and all the resources have the same calendar.

thanks

Mike Glen

That constraint can only be applied by typing in the Start date - a thing
that you should avoid. Let the logical precedence links tell you what dates
are possible with the links and Durations you've entered. Although I don't
think it'll make a difference, reset them both to As Soon As Possible (the
default setting) - in fact reset all tasks constraints whilst you're at it.
Now look at the Usage view as I suggested and see if you can tell us what's
going wrong.

Hi,

In my project when i create a task, by default it has the constraint
"Start No Earlier Than " (I dont know why), besides when i "update
project " the task that not have begun are set "Start No Earlier Than
". Normally I dont link task, because I only want to know when the
resource will be available but I'm not interesed the order that the
task will be done. Besides when the resources introduces new tasks in
Web Access they haven´t the posibility of link task. If I set the
constraint "As Soon As Possible " the behaviour is the same.

In the Usage view the two task at the same day has 7 h of work and
the resource appears overallocated with 14 h of work.

Is posible that my project is in a corrputed state or something
similar?

thanks

jserranochacon,
The reason you are seeing the constraint of "start no earlier than" is
because you are creating tasks by entering the start date. Except for a
few special tasks, that is the wrong way to create a schedule. But then
from your further explanation, it sounds like you really don't have a
schedule plan. Rather, it sounds like what you have is a collection of
random tasks that are not related in any way. Normally resources do not
enter tasks - they perform tasks. The project manager creates the
initial overall schedule plan, assigns appropriate resources,
coordinates that plan with resources, baselines the plan once it is
agreed to be all parties, and then administers the maintenance and
tracking of the plan as it is executed.

I doubt your Project file is corrupt. From your viewpoint it may seem
like Project is acting strange but in fact it is simply responding to
the way you have set it up. At this point I don't think any of us really
has a good idea of what your "plan" looks like from a structure point of
view. What I suggest is that you go to our MVP website at,
http://www.mvps.org/project/links.htm, and hit the link to Mike's

Hi,

When I create a task I don't introduce a date and Project set the
constraint to "start no earlier than" today. I know that the way I use
Project is not the common way but it doesn't explain this extrange
behaivour. I have adapt Project to my necesities, and It have worked
good until it began a extrange beaviour.

Thanks.

Try deleting the 2 tasks, save and close down. Re-open Project and re-enter
the 2 tasks

If you go to the tools, options menu, schedule tab I'll bet you'll find that
it says "New Tasks: Start on Current Date." That causes an SNET constraint
of the date you enter the task to be set. Change that to read "Start on
Project Start Date" instead and you'll get the normal ASAP constraint when
you add tasks.

Hi,

the problem has been resolved.

"View"->"Resource sheet"->"add column"->"can be leveled"

The two resources had this property set "NO". I dont know why this
property had this value, I didnt know this property exists. I changed
it to "YES" and the problem is solved.

Thank you very much for all your help and your time.
