resource sending a note to PM

hi,
is it possible for a resource to send a note to the PM without having MS
Project installed on his/her computer or having any tasks assigned to
him/her. what i mean is, say for example, a resource wants to work on a
project that mite be starting today and wants to let the PM know that he is
going on vacation next week. in this case, there are no tasks assinged to him
as of now and he wants to work on a specific task that is starting soon. so
the question is, can he INITIATE a note to the PM without the PM assigning a
task. if the question is not clear please post comment and i will try to
clarify.

The resource should simply send the PM an e-mail message through Outlook.

The resource could Create a new task in PWA (if it is enabled in the security).
