Resource Sharing

Hi all,

I started with one big project and then saved each section
to its own file. I then created a master project that has
each of these files listed as a sub-project, in MP 2002

The problem is, I've now got multiple listings for each
resource and I'm not sure how to get just one listing for
each resource. The master project should have the
resources listed, then each of the different sub projects
will use resources from this list.

I've gone through the help files and books, but I still
can't figure out how to get a list of people that belong
to the master project and are used by the sub-projects
without starting from scratch.

Can anyone suggest a way to sort this mess out in
beginners language?

Thanks, John

Hi,

Resource sharing happens through ... Tools, Resources, Share resources
Master Projects can best be seen as just a common view to the tasks of
several project files.
For instance, a project can be inserted in many master files.
A project doesn't KNOW itis inserted in a master file.

Now for resource sharing
New File
Save as ... the name you want for your resource "pool" f.i. Mypool
Open each subproject in turn
Tools, Resources, Resource sharing, Use resources from... select Mypool
(even though it is emty at teh start, don't worry)
Save and close the lot.

Here comes the cherry on the cake
open the pool, select option 3 "Pool and Sharers"
It will create a master project for you, and now in the resource sheet you
only get each resource only once and work is consolidated.

Your mess as you called it has been cleared up
(Hence my name... :))

Sorry, Jan, but only one person who makes bad jokes is allowed in this
forum, and I got the postion years ago...

Hi again,

personally, I would have said that both of you should be
banned, but as I'm after help again, I'd best be quiet :)

Being a novice at project, I created a load of individual
projects. Then inserted them all (insert/project) under a
the project title. I then, quite merrily, set up all the
links between the different sub projects so that they are
now all linked together.

Then I learned about resource sharing.... I've done what
you recommended, but am having a nightmare with a deadline
looming. How can I get my current version into master and
sub with one resource sheet.

When I created a new seperate resource pool, it worked
fine, but then how do i get the one sheet to replace all
the seperate ones i've currently got?

After numerous attempts, I've got one version with the
resource pool inserted as project. Another that opens it
in a seprate file when I look at all outline levels.
While in others I still have all the resources from each
file, mixed toether with the resource pool.

I'd be grateful for any help or suggestions, as my monitor
is next to a window and the temptation may prove too much.

Many Thanks, John

It IS with one resource sheet if you did as I said, sorry.
When the individual projects are connected to one pool, ANY master (also the
one you already lmade) wiill come up with one sheet.
