Resource shows as available, why aren't they assinged to the project?

I have a resource assinged to several tasks in a project on our
project server. I noticed that the remaining work for a group of
tasks was 114.5 hours, but the end date for the task group was out
futher than I expected based on the remaining work.

I check the resource availability from the PWA screen and noticed that
on two days in one week, the resource is listed as available, so my
question is why isn't the resouce's time taken up by the project?

The resource is assigned at 100% on a M-F work week. On Thursday of
one week, it shows the resource as 8h available. I need that 8h for
that resource dedicated to the project.

Hi,

Projects don't take up resources' time, tasks do.
Maybe in the period of availability of the resource there are no tasks
planned with the resource assigned to it?

The date that shows the resources with 8h available time is Thursday,
August 7. The resource has tasks scheduled that cover that date. For
example one task starts 7/24 and shows an end date of 8/11. So, why
wouldn't the resource be at 0h available time on 8/7?

This might be a symptom of a bigger problem (user-related I'm sure of
it) regarding tasks and predecessors. I set up this goup of tasks for
this resource making each task below the first one an FS predecessor
of the next because they are all done by the same resource. However,
the tasks are not actually done one by one in that order. A little
work is done on task 1 and a little time is spent on task 3, etc.
When I go in as the PM to Tools-Tracking-Update Project, I select
"Reschedule uncompleted work to start after:" and I enter the date. I
do this at the end of each week, so I set the date as that Friday.

When I do this, I'm afraid that because the tasks aren't worked and
completed in order, perhaps the dates are being "redistributed" by
some means I'm not aware of?

That's a good point. I thought when I reschedule until after... I was
rescheduling after Friday August 1, but perhaps I rescheduled until
after August 8. However, I think I must have chosen the correct date,
August 1, because the days before August 7, the resource is not
available. All the resources available work time is dedicated to the
tasks of the one project.
