Resource split advice

I have a resource that is working on a task for 12 days. He is 100%
allocated for the first 5 days but then only 50% allocated for the
remaining 7 days as he will be 50% allocated to another task over that
time.

What is the best way to depict this in the schedule?

I'd do it the simple way with two tasks, the second being a successor to
the first. 1st is the one at 100% for 5 days and the second is the 1/2
time across 12 days.

Hi

First assign the resource 100% to 12 days of the 1st activity (could be done
through lower window in 'Gantt Chart' view after Window > Split).
Second, In 'Resource Usage View' for the last 7 days of 1st activity change
the assignment to 50% manually in individual cells.
Third assign the resource 50% to all days of the second activity again
through Window > Split.
