Resource Substitution - PS2003

Darn

I'm trying without much success to use the resource substitution
wizard and wonder if anyone is able to point out what I'm going
wrong.

For the Ent. Resource Pool I have defined a Custom Outline Code in
Resource to map Skills. I have also created a RBS based on these
Skills. All resources in the Pool are assigned a Skill and RBS. Next,
I have created a Generic Resource to which I have assigned the
relevant Skill, but left the RBS field empty. The Pool has been
checked into the Server and the OLAP rebuilt.

I have created a small test project resourced totally with Generic
resources, checked it into the server and then run the substitution
wizard in two different ways.

First I have added a range of named resources with the correct skills
to the Project Team from the 'Build team from Ent' option. Then I have
told the wizard to run using only project team resources. The wizard
appears to ignore the skills and RBS and simply assigns the first
three resources from the project team list.

Second, starting again from only Generic resources in the project, I
have told the wizard to use the Pool with resource below the top level
of the RBS hierarchy. This should have given access to everyone in the
Pool. In this case I cannot see what the system has done as it simply
appears to have pulled names from the Pool at random.

Is it obvious to anyone out there what I've missed?

Thanks,
David

It sounds like you missed one huge step. When you created the Skills field,
did you select the "Use this code for matching generic resources" option?
If not, you need to do so and then try again with the Resource Substitution
Wizard. Let us know if this helps.

Dale,

When I created the Skills field as an Ent Resource Outline Code I
selected both 'Only allow selection of codes with no subordinate
values' and 'Use this code for matching Generic resources'.

Dale,

Think I've found that the problem is down to timing, that is, the test
projects I have been using were created before the Skills and RBS
existed. I've just created a new test project using the same generic
resources and Ent Resource pool and it's worked fine.

Congrats on your persistence until you resolved the issue, and thanks for
sharing the resolution! :)
