Resource substitution..

Hi,

There is this issue I need to solve.. We have a few external resources
assigned to some tasks in a project. So one of them isn't returning to our
office, so all his tasks must be assigned to a new resource. I need all the
tasks, and real hours reported by the old resurce to be assigned to the new
one.. Is there some way to do this??

Next time I'm thinking of creating resources with username external1,
external2, etc.. because everytime a new resource arrives to subsitute an old
one I have this type of problem, and I don't know what procedure I must
follow exactly..

The situation now is that when I open the project the task are assigned to a
deleted resource, as I deleted the old user from AD and Project Server
database. I added the new resource to AD and synchronized with the resource
pool.

So basically I need a solution for the actual problem, and some procedure to
follow the next time I have to change a resource and assign the tasks and
hours reported..

Thanks..

Averied,

The simplist way I can think of is to use Build Team. Use the Replace
button with the new resource and old resource selected.
From a process point of view, I think that you should probably
inactivate the old resource until the new resource is assigned, but
that probably isn't that important, as long as you have the old
resource in the project plan as a Local Resource.

If the old and new resources have different rates, then this method
isn't good, since the costs will not be valid for the work already
performed. If that is important to your organization, I would use the
Assign Resources tool in Project Pro to replace the old resource with
the new. This will retain hours and zero remaining work, against the
old resources and assign the remaining work to the new resource. This
is done on a task by task basis, but you can select multiple tasks, so
it doesn't take that long.

Hope this answered your question.

Perfect! I finally opened the project in Office Project and used the replace
option...

Thanks..
