Resource summary assignment workload is sometimes not correctly sh

Hi,

We are using MS Project server 2003, SP2. I run into a problem where MSPS
seems to make mistakes when calculating the timescaled values for work at the
project level. These values are shown for instance in task usage views when
one project A is using a resource that is also assigned to tasks in another
project B. Work assigned to that resource within project B is displayed on
one single line which summarizes the total work planned for that resource.
We noticed however that the work is not correctly displayed at the resource
level. It seems that work is mistakenly delayed on the summary asignment with
an extra day for each non-working day set in the resources' calendar. Also it
seems that this problem is also influenced when a taskcalendar has been set
on one or several tasks and the 'Ignore resource calendar' option was checked.

When project B is opened, the summary line is replaced with all task lines
from project B and workload assignments are then correctly displayed.

After several tests we are pretty sure that this seems like a defect within
MS Project Server. Has anyone had similar experiences? Is there any fix to
resolve the issue?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks
Kurt

What you are describing is nothing new. It seems to be the standard
behavior of the tool, although bizarre. We saw this problem in Project
Server 2002 as well. There is no fix available, to the best of my
knowledge. This is why you never attempt to level overallocated resources
without doing the following:

1. When you log into Project Server from Project Professional 2003, be sure
to deselect the "Load summary resource assignments" option first.
2. To level an overallocated resource across multiple projects, you must
have all of the projects open in which the overallocated resource has
assignments.

Hope this helps.
