Resource updates did not reflect correctly

E

Eric

Hi Everyone,

I got a little problem her. One of the tasks in a certain project has three
resources.
Resource A, B and C. Resource B and C has been updating their task to 100%
however Project server shows that B[70%] and C[50%]. A is already 100%.

I ask the resources to resend their updates and also asked their manager to
approve their updates. I was even ther when they did it but still the task
status is the same "A,B[70%],C[50%]".

I don't understand why it did not update in the project even though we did
the update process more than twice. No errors where found in the eventviewer.

Any help from our MVPs?

Thanks for your reply Dave.

Is there a need to republish the project after accepting the task updates?
We don't usually publish the schedule after accepting the task update and it
works well.

If i publish the project will the wrong update get reflected on the PWA?

After the manager clicked on un 'Update' from PWA and launch Project
Professional here is what is shown.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/monsterbot/Others/Resource.jpg

the update reflected should be 100% for Nemuel however it still shows [70%].

The numbers in the Resource Column are allocation percentages (Units), not
completion data. The task is showing incomplete because one or more of these
resources has remaining work in the system.

thanks for your reply Gary,

The thing is 'Nemuel' (as shown in the image) has set 100% for his task
update but PWA and Project Professional always shows that his accomplishment
is only 70%. His team lead said that this scenario only happens whenever
'Nemuel' is a member of a task. otherwise things are normal for the rest of
the other resources task.

By the way , before this scenario 'Nemuel's User Name [not Windows User
Account] is mispelled so i change it correctly. I'm not sure if this is the
cause of his tasks not updating correctly. I tried testing the same scenarion
(resource changed name and then updates his task) on a test project server
and nothing seems wrong.

Any help?

Eric:

Project Server authenticated accounts are keyed on the resource name, so
changing this makes it a new resource. This could very well explain what's
going on. You might try removing this user from the tasks and closing out
the assignments and then start again. To dig deeper, you'd need to perform
an audit of the updates.

Eric:

Ok then, the name change wouldn't cause this, but corruption in the resource
record might. Can you setup a test project with just the one resource and
see what happens? Let us know if you see errors generated in application
event log when you perform publish actions or updates for this resource.

Hi Guys,

Up to now, i can't understand why this scenario happens. But it seems an
isolated case on the specific project.

However i got another issue, the project is handed to a new owner and
the owner did the :

'Edit project owner in PWA'
'Collaborate->Publish->Republish Assignments and Become Manager for
these Assignments' step

to fully transfer the whole project ownership to the new owner.

However one tasks seems to be sending task updates to the old owner
while the rest of the tasks are working normally.

I guess the project itself i corrupted??? Is this possible????

Eric

Yes, it's very possible. You can try saving the project to an xml file, the
import it, then use the Force a rebuild on the binary by following the
directions here:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/BinaryRebuild.htm
