Resource Usage - Split Columns?

Hello,

I'm trying to create a Resource Usage Report view from our Project Pla
but I can't seem to get the Rollup to work or split the columns int
tasks and release. So on the Gantt view I have

Project Name
---Release Name
------- Task Name
---------- Iteration 1
---------- Iteration 2
---------- Iteration 3

I would like the view to only show the Release name, and I trie
rolling the Iteration up to Task Name and then Task Name to Release, bu
not showing that Gant Bar and I can't do it. The Resource Usage ends u
looking like

Resource Name
--- Iteration 1
--- Iteration 2
--- Iteration 3

In a separate Column I end up with a list of the Release Names Next t
it.

What I want displayed in separate columns is --

Resource Name

Release Name

Task Name

I've tried everything and can't seem to get it to display this way.

This is also an issue when creating Roll-up Gantts, that it insists o
displaying the Iteration Tasks and Text. But I can't get it to onl
display the Release Name (unless I create a totally separate projec
plan and get rid of the Iteration level of sub tasks.). So I think if
get an answer to the Resource Question, it should also solve my Rollu
issue as well.

Thanks in advanc

Hello malexandria,

You can add the Task Summary name field (column) to the Resource Usage view
that will show the summary task name for the assignment (iteration). The
Assignment (iteration) will still be listed underneath each resource's name
but the summary task for the assignment will be in a separate column:

To hide details in the Gantt chart, try adding a flag field and set the
flags to Yes for the tasks you wish to show. Then use autofilters to display
only the "yes" rows.

To get 100% of what you want, you'll need to export the data (Task,
Resource, and Assignment) and format as needed in Excel.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thank you for the quick reply. That's what I did originally. I created a
custom Release Field, but I was trying to either not display the task or
move the task over to it's own column. What ends up happening is, I end
up with John Smith and 20 or 30 tasks all listed as Design,
Construction, Deployment.... Instead of a clean rolled up Task Name or
Release Name....

What I've done is just go through and delete all those lines so only
the Tasks show, but I'd still like to figure out how to split it, or
reverse it so that the Release Names show underneath the name.

Hi malexandria,

Try creating a custom group in the Resource Usage to group first by
Name and then by Task Summary name (turn on group assignments and
select Task Summary as assignment field). Does that get you closer?

The assignments will always show underneath the resource's name -- I
don't believe there is anyway to show that as a separate field other
than by manipulating exported data in Excel.

Thank you, this helped a lot! Now I need to figure out how to display
Allocation percentages in a column.

You're welcome malexandria. Glad to have helped and thanks for the
feedback. As you have discovered, the percent allocation figure is
not available on the non-timescaled (right) side of the Resource
Usage table. You could add the Assignment Units to show information
about each assignment but it does not roll-up to resource level.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
