Resource Usage View -- Information from Different Projects

C

Carlos

Hello all,

I' m using Project Server 2003 and working with several Projects and
administrative Projects. Using the Resource Usage View is possible to see the
resource usage that belong to other projects even if the project are not
open. But, for me it's not possible to see the resource usage from an
administrative project if is closed, if I open it then I see the resource
usage and the tasks from this administrative project.

I know that I can use Portfolio Anylizer funtionalities, but it's more
comfortable to use Resource Usage View, is that a normal behaviour, could it
be changed?

Sorry if the question was asked before, I tried to find without result,

Thanks very much and regards,

I would like to add more information, repeating the steps in:

another colleague's computer
another project

when using the Resource Usage View is possible to see the tasks from the
administrative project without open it. So I did some tests to follow:

open the project that my colleague uses
add a task and assign to me

when using the REsource Usage View I cannot see the tasks from the
administrative project. If I open it at the same time I see them...

So, could it be possible that my problem belongs to my Resource's User?, in
all the projects we add the resources building a team from the entreprise...

I hope is clear :)

Thanks again,

First of all, do the following:

1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and connect to Project Server
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Microsoft Office Project Server
Accounts
3. Select the "Manually control connection state" option
4. Click OK
5. Exit and then relaunch Microsoft Project Professional

You should now see the Project Server Accounts dialog. In this dialog,
select the "Load summary resource assignments" option at the bottom of the
dialog and then click the Connect button. You should now be able to see
assignments in other unopened projects in the Resource Usage view for any
proejct. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much Dale but I cannot follow completely your steps:

I selected 'Manual control connection state' and relaunched Project but does
not appear any option like 'Load summary resource assignments' in the Project
Server Accounts window where I can choose btw 'My computer' then account we
use, three buttons 'connect', 'work offline' and 'cancel' and a checkbox that
says 'Connecting across a WAN (limited functionality in Build Team).

:(... I'm using Microsoft Professional 2003

thanks for you help, regards,

What you see is the source of your problem. You need to upgrade your
Microsoft Project Professional client to at least SP1, with SP2 preferred.
You probably need to upgrade your Project Server to SP2a if you have not
already done so. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much, you are right! I didn't upgraded, didn't thought :p... I
will and let you know the results...

Hi again, well finally I updated the Project client to SP2 and the Project
Server uses SP2a.
I followed the steps below completely but I'm getting exactly the same
problem. I will try to explain in a better way, in the Resource Usage view I
can see other project tasks including administrative projects. Also I can see
the work assigned to these other projects but not for the administrative
project unless I open the administrative project at the same time.

The curious thing is that this is happening only to my resource name,
because if using my computer, project client and the same project, I assign a
task to other resource it works perfectly.

I added my vacations on the administrative project and those days were
accepted by me as the project manager. If I open the administrative project I
can see the vacations accepted to my resource name...

I hope the information is clear...

Thanks again, rgds,
