Resource Usage View - total hours are zero

In the Resource Usage View the total next to the resource name is always
displaying zero even though there are tasks below with Work hours. I
know this sounds strange but it used to work. I have tried everything
even reinstalling Project (2003 service pack 3).

I even took a project that used to work correctly and added a resource
and task and now that shows zero also. When I add a new task to an
existing resource in this project the total doesn't change. It shows
the previous total which is now incorrect.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello sbd,

I can reproduce what you report when calculation is set to manual.
Press F9 and see if you now see total work for the resource. If you
see values after pressing F9, go to Tools > Options, Calculation tab
and set your calculation mode to Automatic.

That worked. I am not sure why but it sure saved me a lot of time and
trouble. I use manual recalculation and when I now press F9 it updates
the totals.
