resource view - alternative calendar view possible?

G

Gabi

Dear all,
is it in general possible to modify the calendar content of the resource
view sheet?
I am wondering if it would be possible to not only show the "work"
information in the calendar view sheet but also actuals to be able to compare
plan vs actuals on a calendar week basis?
I don't know if MSP is able to hold the actuals with a date assigned at all;
if not I think it wouldn't make any sense anyway...
Thanks much in advance for your reply,
best regards,
Gabi

Hi Gabi,

I'm sorry I'm afraid I don't follow what view you are working with.
The Resource sheet view doesn't show calendar content and I'm not
sure what the "calendar view sheet" is.

Are these views you see in Project standard/professional or Project
web access?

The Resource Usage view can show both work and actual work in the
timescaled (right) side of the view. Is that what you are looking
for?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie,

yes, that's what I meant, sorry, I didn't know the right word.
Now that you mentioned it, I had the "bright idea" of looking at it with the
right mouse-function and found that I can also show the actuals in the
timescale.
How does it know in which day or week to show the actual values?

Thanks!

Hello Gabi,

I'm glad you were able to discover the right click in the usage
view. There is a great deal of very useful information available
there.

As far as when in time Actual Work gets distributed, it you just
update % complete or % work complete in a non-timescaled area,
project will allocate the actual work values based upon originally
scheduled work. For example, if you had a task with a 5 day
duration and 8 hours of work per day scheduled. You updated the
task as 50% complete, project will assume you have worked 2.5 days
(1/2 of 5) and have complete 20 hours of work based upon the
original schedule. If you want to record that your resource worked
9 hours on Monday, and 6 hours on Tuesday and 5 hours on Wednesday,
you can enter that information in the right side of the Resource
Usage view in the Actual Work field.

You may also zoom out of the view showing only weekly information
and record actuals there.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
