Resource Will Not Un-Overallocate

R

Rob

I have 2007 desktop.

I have a resource that has no signs of being overallocated. I looked at
every resource under the task usage view and every task under the resource
usage view and nothing is red. Yet, the persons name is red on the resource
sheet and resource usage view.

I checked the calender too.

I am stumped. Please Help.

Is the resource in red scheduled to work on more than one task on the same
day? If a resource is scheduled to work 1 hr on task A and 2 hrs on task B,
Project will schedule both tasks to start at 8am. Then call it an
overallocation, even though the resource can easily get the 3 hrs of work
done in a day. I choose to just ignore such overallocations. If it really
bugs you, you can schedule the work on one of the tasks to start after the
other task is complete. Of course, this can cause problems later if the
task starting at 8am is rescheduled to a later date. The other task still
won't start until later in the day.

Hope this helps in your world.

I had ruled out summary task already.

And this resource has no overlaps at all. It's a perfect set of stairs when
sorted by start date with all the summary and indent options unchecked from
options.

Thank you for your replies.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to look at your file.
The only overallocted resoruce I see is Tim Chantome
Well, there's no mistery: during a much as 9 days he HAS several tasks in
parallel and that each time makes him overallocated.
Of course, he is never overallocated on a task in particular, but due to the
combination of several tasks: resource usage clearly shows that.
You might just wondr whay he's overallocated on 26/9 with only 8 hrs of
work: that's because the two tasks overlap part of the day.

Hope this helps,

This also made me realize something... Why is my summary task not catching
all tasks? I have tasks finish way after my summary task.

Hi Rob,

Oh-Oh
The file you sent me does not have this type of error, and when I level it
the end date is calmly Nov 7 this year, so I cannopt reproduce any of your
errors
BUT
When I open the file it warns me of certain links, and if I want to keep
them.
Since I don't have any other file, I tell Project to ignore these links
I then have before me a perfectly healthy file!
So your problem has to do with whatever you linked into this file.
From the errors you describe the link may well introduce a circular
relationship.
Try removing the links to see whether it solves your problem...
Then carefully reconsider why yoiu linked..

Hope this helps,

YESS!!!

I found this too and removed them. Also, a task had the a resource's effort
1% more than the available from the resource sheet. Typing error obviously.

After both of those, it was resolved.

Thank you very much Jan.
