Resources assigned to tasks disappear

I am getting complaints from users that while working on a project
occasionally resources assigned to tasks will just disappear. Having
entered a certain resource in the Resource Names column to assign a person to
a task, this name will then disappear from the column.

This doesn't happen for all resources. There doesn't appear to be a pattern
to the times at which it happens. The users say that they are not even
touching the keyboard when this occurs. Nothing is logged on the server or
client and I can't reproduce the error for myself.

We are running Project Server 2003 with sp1. The clients are Project
Professional also with sp1.

I'm going to use the setracing utility to try and get some more information,
but as the users cannot reproduce the error consistently I'll have to wait
for it to happen again. In the meantime, I just wondered if anyone else has
seen behaviour like this or is it just us?

In general, entering resource names in the resource names column in order to
assign resources to tasks is a behavior to be avoided. When using the proper
tools at the appropriate times: 1) Build Team from Enterprise, 2) Assign
Resources Dialog, or 3) The Task Entry form in a split window Task view,
strange behaviors are less likely to happen.
