resources instead of tasks

I have 8 designers that I need to assign jobs to and keep track of what
they are working on and who is free to sort new work. Is it possible to
have the designer (that are resources at the moment) to be displayed in
the task area and have the jobs that come in the be calendar area. so
that the jobs can be layout in a form like a time line and if new jobs
come in and can slot them onto the designers time line.

like this:

designers name : [job1] [ job 2 ][ job3 ][job4] etc

instead of

Job1: [ ]designers name
Job2: [ ] designers name
etc....

please help...

I would make each of your 8 designers a summary task with the jobs showing
below as task. As new projects come up you add them:
Designer 1
*------------------------------------*
Job A

Hi,

Will the Resource sheet view not give you what you are looking for? This
view groups tasks by resource and shows the hours being worked on each task
each day.

Hope this helps

Good morning.
A summary task is made up of several other task. Type Summary help box.

I think you're looking for a "Resource Gantt" view. Unfortunately, the
closest thing Project provides is a Resource Usage view, which shows
hours worked rather than easier-to-read bar charts.

After some research I found a post by Jan De Messemaeker that solved my
problem using filters:

----------------------------

I have done this for several customers, and it is not that difficult...

PROVIDING YOU HAVE ONLY ONE ASSIGNMENT PER TASK.

How I do it:
I create a filter "Incomplete Non Summary Tasks" (More Filters, New,
Summary Equals No, And, percent Complete, Not Equal, 100).

I create a Gantt Chart-like view based on that filter and whereby all
non-summary task bars have the texts :
Left, Task name
Right, Resource Names (which should be only one name, remember)

In that view, I sort by Resource Name (Keep outline structure OFF) and
by Start

---------------------------

This will give you a view that looks like this: (hope the formatting
works)

Resource Names: Glen
Tech Spec******* Glen
Code ****************** Glen
Test ************* Glen

Resource Names: John
Design ************* John
Refine ********** John
Test ************ John
