Resources with different length of work days

I am trying to schedule a project where some of the people work 4 10 hour
days and some people work 5 8 hour days. Is there a way for Project 2003 to
schedule these resources accordingly. Currently, I can only get schedules to
be either 10 hour days or 8 hour days, not both.

Hi Larry,

Since w<hat you ask is perfectly possible (as far as >I understand the
question) I do not se your problem.
Can you be more specific? How did you enter the working time data for the
resources?

Jan,

I have two calendars defined; 1) Standand and 2) Monday - Thursday. The
Standard schedule is the Mon - Fri 8 hours a day. The Monday - Thursday
calendar is the 4 10 hour day schedule. Some of the people are assigned to
the standard schedule and some peopled are assigned to the Monday - Thursday.
When I assign resouces to tasks the people assigned to the Standard schedule
works correctly, they are assigned 8 hours of work. But, when I assign tasks
to the Monday - Thursday people, they are only assigned 8 hours of work each
day.

How do I make the system assign 10 hours of work to the Monday - Thursday
resources?

Thanks Larry

Hi Larry,

With my MS Project, they do work 10 hours a day, and the othe rones 8 hr/d.
Other than believing you are working on a different software :)) I can't
but repeat my question: how did you define the fact that they can work
10h/d?

And to avoid lengthy guesswork, can you send me the file?
Greetings,

Hi Larry,

How are you checking the assignments? If you are looking at the Gantt Chart
view, Project will be showing the Standard calendar, even for the Mon-Thu
people. I think if you look at a Usage view, you will see the correct 10
hour assignments. If you want to see this in the Gantt Chart view,
Format/Timescale.../Nonworking Time tab and select the Mon-Thu calendar and
OK. Now zoom in to the view to see hours per day (click the little + sign
in the toolbar).

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))

Perhaps you need to break down your tasks to a greater level of granularity.
If you have several resources assigned to the same task, some with 8 hour
days and others with 10 hour days, Project will divide the work evenly
between the resources and the duration will be however long it takes the
slowest resource to complete his share of the work.
