resources without PWA accounts

All,

Does anyone know if it is possible to add resources to the Enterprise
Resource Pool without giving them an account in PWA? I am the admin and only
I can add resources to the ERP. I also denied the permission for Admin group
to "Create Accounts from Microsoft Office Project", but it still creates
accounts on PWA!

Thanks,

I guess the question is why do you want a resource to exist in the
Enterprise Resource Pool, available to be assigned to a enterprise
project, but not give them the ability to report progress in PWA?

Creating a resource in the ERP creates a user in PWA. If you delete a
user in PWA, they are deleted from the ERP. If you inactiveate a user
account in PWA, they are inactiveated in the ERP and won't show in the
ERP list unless you check and apply the "Show Inactive" filter.

The "Create Accounts from Microsoft Office Project" feature
allows/doesn't allow/denies project managers or resource managers the
ability to create enterprise resources from there resource sheet when
publishing an enterprise project.

The reason is because of licensing. We sometimes need to have people in
projects, but we need their group to buy the CAL license before they have
access to PWA.

Marcus, as a work-around, until you purchase the CALs, is to use Local
Resources. I would suggest that you quickly write a policy or
procedure on using local resources. I have one that you could use as a
starting point. Email me at eswb10NOSPAM@hotmaildotcom (delete the
words nospam and replace the word dot with a period) and I will send
it.

You should establish naming conventions for the local resources to
match enterprise resource conventions and populate all the resource
custom fields with the required data, to make it easier to import the
local resource into enterprise.

I might also recommend that you see if your company might be better off
buying a block of CALs (you get a discount that way) and then "selling"
the CAL to the group that needs it.
