resourse task overlap question

Would like any suggestion on to handle a scenario described below using
MS-Project. We have work-around but wondered if there is more graceful
way to resolve.

Resource-1 is assigned to work on Task-1 and Task-2 and each task takes
two weeks time. Task-2 is scheduled to start with a week lag from the
start of Task-1. Resource-1 should be assigned to these two tasks 100%
except during the overlap period (2nd week) when he is expected to work
on both tasks simultaneously (50% on each task).

thanks,

The best way to resolve this overallocation is to apply the Task Usage view
and then manually contour the overlapping Work hours in the timephased grid.
Hope this helps.

I understand your situation and Dale's solution is really the way to go, but
of course this can be an issue if the resourse does not get the "planned"
work done exactly to schedule. In that case, you may have to re-allocate the
hours as Dale suggested on a regular basis.

But I am courious, what is your work-around? I would like to know.

Joe, here's the work-around from my co-worker:

Yes, it [dale's solution] works. Only thing is that one needs to
manually adjust the load. On a large project, such adjustment of the
immediate tasks and its domino effect on subsequent tasks may be quite
cumbersome. On the other hand, automatic leveling will stretch the
duration essentially reducing it to sequential operation. In that
sense, your suggested method is more acceptable in this scenario.
