Response form - yellow background?

J

Judi

Just when I think I have figured out response forms...argggg...
I have a series of text boxes...for the standard name, address, etc. All of
them end up publishing with a nice, three-dimensional look with a yellow
background. Except one. No matter what I try, once I edit the text box with
the correct name, it goes to a simple white box. I've tried different texts,
copying one of the others, inserting a new one. It's always the same one. You
can see it at: http://www.almadenbizassn.org/index_files/Contact.htm

Sometimes it'll stay yellow, but once I get it in the correct order and
text, it goes to white. What am I doing wrong? I don't care if they're white
or yellow--just as long as they're all consistent.

Thanks!

This has nothing to do with Publisher nor anything you are doing or not
doing.

It seems like everybody this days (except me, by choice) uses somebody's
toolbar in their browser. Those dang pesky things that are made by everybody
and their cousin have a variety of functions. Google has one where it puts a
yellow background on form fields that it can apply it's auto fill function
to. Turn off your toolbar and or modify such toolbar settings and you will
magically view the form as it was produced by Publisher.

The edges and border shading and flat or not flat treatment of form fields
and buttons is controlled by the operating system. If you are seeing a cool
dimensional shading warm effect on them then you are using Windows XP with
it's default effects settings. Turn those off or view the same thing in
Windows 98 and you'd see simple flat, cold, boxy, form controls.

Ahhhh. So you're telling me I was just banging my head against the wall for
over an hour trying to get this to change... :) And, yes, of course you were
right: I turned off the Google toolbar and the yellow went away. However, all
the boxes except that one has a three-dimensional look to them. (Yes, I do
have XP.) But that single box is just an simple outlined box. So isn't there
a way for them all to look the same?

Thanks so much!

When I view the URL you provided I don't see any difference in their
appearance (WinXPsp2,IE6sp2) at all.Are you trying to do any formatting to
the form controls in Publisher (which you shouldn't do)? You don't specify
which field you view differently so I don't know what I'm looking for. But,
all you can do is provide the form field to the client. Nothing more. If you
are freaking out already over this then just think how much you'd freak out
if I told you that different browsers will size those form fields at
different widths. Oops, I just let that out didn't I. Hey web design is not
a science, it's not black and white. Your creation is always (yes always) at
the mercy of many, many, client side variables. If you want to take it
seriously then you need to create a test lab with different machines,
platforms, o/s's, browsers, versions, and test - test - test - test. But
then if you are that serious you shouldn't be using Publisher for the
design.

OK. OK. I'll stop being such a perfectionist. (My husband has another word
for it...) I didn't see any way to format the form controls, so, no, I'm not
doing that. I have viewed this site with a few different browsers--just to be
sure it wasn't hideous. But you're absolutely right. I need to let go of this
little stuff. (BTW, it was the "city, state, zip" field that was driving me
bonkers.) ...And I chose Publisher because I didn't want to spend a lot of
time on this... Ha! :)

Thanks again for the sanity check!
