Restarting numbering when not created with ‘Bullets & Numbers’

I have a set of calendars that were created in WordPerfect and then imported
into Word. The calendars used WordPerfect’s automatic numbering to create
dates (a different number in each individual cell). Some dates need to be
changed to reflect a ‘restarting’ of numbering at ‘1’ after ‘30’ or ‘31’
depending on the month. Word doesn’t seem to recognize the numbers –
‘Restart Numbering’ is greyed out when I choose the Bullets and Numbers menu.
How can I restart the numbering at ‘1’?

Thanks.

Since mkraft wrote that numbering isn't recognized by Word, it could
have been converted to plain text (typed numbers), in which case item
1 in my previous message would be irrelevant. Instead, you'd have to
recreate numbering.
