Restore and minimize buttons missing in document

When word opens the minimize and restore buttons are missing from the
document toolbar. Tried deleting the normal.dot file, renaming the DATA
registry key, repairing office, uninstalling and reinstalling Word, and none
of it corrected the problem. None of the Knowledge Base articles helped.

What happens if you use the Restore/Maximize or Minimize buttons that
are visible? Does the document minimize?

If you are using Word 2000 or higher then the document interface has
changed. Rather than displaying multiple documents in a single window
(MDI) they each have their own single window (SDI).

Depending on the version of Word you can switch to MDI by going to
Tools/Options/View and turning off "Windows in taskbar".
