restore autoformat default settings in Access 2003

T

Tooty

I by mistake custominzed some of the autoformat themes. I customized the
sandpaper and ricepaper themes to be the same as the industrialized theme and
now I don't know how to restore them back to their original form. In
desperate need fo help. Thanks.

ps - I have tried resetting the toolbar and it doesn't work. I have tried
creating new forms in a new database as well as on my flashdrive and nothing
changes.

Hi Tooty,

You don't indicate which version of Access that you are using, but I'm
guessing it is Access 2000 or later, since I don't see these patterns in my
installation of Access 97.

There are two methods that should probably work in your case.

Search your hard drive for ACRICEPR.GIF (Ricepaper pattern). In my case, I
found this file in two folders, one for Access 2000 and one for Access 2002:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2000\Office\Bitmaps\Styles and
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office XP\Office10\Bitmaps\Styles

(I have Access 97, 2000 and 2002 installed on my PC, but I do not have
Access 2003 available).

The other theme files should be found in the same folder. Select the file
when you find it, and then click on File > Open Containing Folder.

Rename all affected files. For example, rename ACRICEPR.GIF to
ACRICEPR.GIF.OLD.

Method 1
Open Access, and click on Help > Detect and Repair...
You should have your installation CD handy, just in case you get prompted to
insert it.

Method 2
If you have Access 2000 or 2002, send me a private e-mail message with a
valid reply address. My e-mail address is shown below in "munged" form (to
help prevent automatic spam bots from harvesting the address). I will send
you copies of the appropriate files, in a .zip archive file. Extract these
files to the folder that you found in the search step.

If my answer has helped you, please answer yes to the question that reads
"Did this post answer the question?" at the bottom of the message thread.

Thanks Tom for your response.
I am using Access 2003. I have located the two .gif files but I don't know
what to do next. I started trying to rename as you suggested and I got a
warning message saying that if I rename file, file may no longer be usable.
If I could get step by step details on what to do next, it will greatly be
appreciated.
Thanks,
Tooty

Hi Tooty,

I wouldn't worry about the warning message. Just rename the file. Then open
any Office program, click on the Help menu, and then select Detect and
Repair...

This should kick off a process that will replace any missing files. Since
you renamed the files, the Office Installer will think they are missing.

I'm fairly certain--although not positive--that the Access 2002 and 2003
versions of these files are identical, so if you'd like me to send you
replacement copies I can do that too. You might even try searching your
installation CD to see if these files are present. If you can find them, just
copy them from the CD to the folder that you found. Change the read only
attribute. I'm not sure if these files are present on the installation disk
with the same names, or perhaps they're part of a compressed CAB file.
