when clicking on the resore down button the window minimizes to the taskbar,
I can only use the maximize button,
to restore the screen I have to select the icon on the taskbar and then with
the maximize option the window becomes visible again,

Probably the restored window is positioned somewhere outside the screen area. To
bring it back, open Word and another program, such as Notepad. Right-click an
empty section of the taskbar and choose one of the Tile options. Then you can
drag the edges of the Word window to the size and position you want.

I have someone with the exact same problem, except she's on a laptop and is
using extended desktop mode (two monitors). She wants to be able to tile all
her windows but Word isn't behaviing. Restore Down acts like Minimize.

I'm going to try your suggestion with her.

But is it likely the same problem, or might it be a different problem due to
the fact that she's working in this extended mode?

When there are two monitors in use and one is not on, then a window could
well be opening on the monitor that's not on.

WORD DATA KEY! In her case, the above suggestion didn't work. I don't know
that this had anything to do with her working in extended mode, but on the
offchance I tried deleting her Word data key and that did the trick!
