Hi,
I have messed up a "sync" with my cell phone's address book and all of my
contacts in my Outlook default folder have been overwritten by my cell phone
contacts--as opposed to the contrary I wanted to achieve.
If I use Win XP's "Restore" function, is there a chance that my previous
contacts may be restored?
Tx,

Data files are not affected by System Restore so the chances are slim and
none, and Slim skipped town.

That's what I thought.......
I dt suppose there is anything I might be able to recover in some obscure
PST file or something of the sort in connection to OL--something that OL
might have created as an archive, etc.?

No. System Restore only restores Windows system files,
not any personal files or settings.

Good news, I had a "mirror" address book in OL Express... Not quite up to
date but a lot of the contacts I lost are there.
What is the best way for me to import those into OL 2002?
Should I export from OE 1st, and in what format?
Or, should I just "import" from OL 2002, and how?
Thanks for your tips,
S

Hi S,

Outlook saves it's data in .pst files. System Restore does not monitor
this file extension. So the answer is no to using System Restore to
retrieve the address book. The are backup .pst file located at
C:\Documents and Settings\User_name\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

This path included hidden files. To view hidden file go to the Control
Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden files and
folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files
[recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

For more information on recovering seek help on one of the Outlook or
Office newsgroups.

I don't see any backup folders there. Just the current folders with the
curretn data so I cannot recover fron those files....

No. Outlook doesn't create backups, did you make a copy of the pst at any
point? Did you look in the deleted folder to see if the sync software moved
them to deleted items folder?
