Restore Normal.dot?

Ed,

Exit Word, and delete all instances of normal.dot. When
you start Word again, it will re-create a new Normal.dot
based up its defaults. You might also try creating your
own templates and applying them to your documents for more
control.

Hi jesse

This suggestion should come with a warning - if a user has customizations
(including AutoTexts, for instance) they want in Normal.dot, deleting it
will lose what could represent hours of work.

Much better to *rename* normal.dot (e.g. to normold.dot) and then if
necessary use the Organizer to selectively copy back whatever is needed (or
indeed restore the original version, if something else was at fault).

I think it is probably more accurate to say that those unfamiliar with
Normal.dot are less likely to realize that they *have* saved customizations
to it. But many users have added toolbar buttons or AutoText entries or
keyboard shortcuts and might not realize that they would lose these by
deleting Normal.dot (not that they could retrieve any of them except the
AutoText entries with Organizer, either, of course).
