Restore Win 98 backup to Win XP

System tools in Win 98 provided for backup and restore. Win
XP uses a wizzard that does not seem to provide same
feature. I want to move Word 2000 files in Win 98 to Word
2000 in Win XP.

I think you are mixing things up a bit.

The backup/restore program is for just that. To make safety backups of
*lots* of files, including the whole disk if you want to be used only in
the event that an emergency restore is required. This has nothing to do
with moving Word files around. While "possible", yes. Practical? No.

XP Pro has the backup installed by default, whereas XP Home you have to
specially install it from the CD.

If you want to move files ... from where to where?

Can't you simply use Explorer to copy the files to a floppy disk then
move the floppy disk to the other machine? Or if the files too big, use
a zip drive, or write to cd, or email, or move via a shared drive on a LAN?

Recommend you not use backup/restore for this. way way to complicated
and not the tool for this. Not now. not ever.
