Restoring archived Outlook files to a new computer

I recently purchased a new computer (now using Vista and Office 2007) and
want to restore an archived Outlook file (Outlook 2003) to this computer. I
have followed the retore procedure trying to import the .pst file but receive
an error message that states I am not authorized to access the files. Is
there some setting that must be changed in Outlook to allow me to access the
archived files?

As posted here and in most of the Outlook groups on a daily basis - do NOT
use the import function to transfer Outlook data.
Why not?

Importing an entire PST may well corrupt your profile and may create a ghost
PST that you can't close. Importing PST's will lose:
1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists

Opening a PST file will preserve all of these. That is why we do not advise
people to import a native file into Outlook.

I'm curious, what "restore procedure" did you follow that says to import the
..pst file? Maybe there's something out there that is causing so many people
to try this?

Did you copy the PST to your new harddrive?
If so, did you remove the read only attribute?

If so, then simply use File > Open in Outlook and browse to the PST file to
open it.

A slight variation on the theme. I dutifully copied the Outllok files to an
external HDD for the past months. So I have an address book, archive and
office data file.

I had a HDD crash and had to recover my XP system and reinstall Outlook 2003.

I copied the files from my back up into the right directories, which is
where the new installation of Outlook 2003 also created these files. As has
been mentioned here, Import is not the way to do restore one's data files.

I tried File > Open > Outlook Data File and select the backup version of
the file.
I get the error message that Filename.pst is not a personal folders file.

I can I get this backed up data to serve as my pst and wab files?
