Restoring corrupt Tasks folder

My Outlook 2003 SP2 wouldn't open ("Cannot start Outlook, unable to open
Outlook window, set of folders could not be opened, server is not available")
so I ran the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) and it fixed it enough to allow
me to open Outlook.

It showed me that my Tasks folder was corrupted: all my Tasks (I only had 15
in there so that made things easy, at least) were now showing up in the newly
created Mail Folder "Lost & Found - Recovered Folder 81A2") and no longer
Showed up in the Tasks folder. In fact, the Tasks folder NO LONGER EXISTED!
All that was available for a folder under Tasks was "Tasks in Archive
Folders." (Note that the repair summary said 15 items were lost or had no
place to go, so it seems this is the extent of what was corrupt, nothing
else... I hope.)

Oddly, my 15 Tasks showed up not only in the Recovered Folder but were also
still appearing in my Calendar when I selected View TaskPane.

In an effort to recreate the Tasks folder, I went into the Tasks module and
did "File - New - Folder" and created a folder called Tasks and specified it
will contain "Task Items," and I put it into the Personal Folders folder at
the top of the tree (that's my only main tree -- I only have the one PST
file).

That "seemed" to work fine -- it gave me a new Tasks folder under the Tasks
module -- BUT when I go into that new Tasks folder and create a New Task two
things go wrong:

1. If I try to apply a Reminder it gives me a warning saying "The Reminder
won't appear because the item is not in your Calendar or in your Tasks
folder. Is this okay?"

2. Tasks I create don't show up under Calendar TaskPane.

I have a couple options I can think of to try now but thought I better ask
advice here before I get into any more complications. What I can try to do
are:

1. Move what I now have to somewhere else and then restore from backup using
a backup I made about a week ago, and then export and import my recent week's
worth of Mail. ( If this approach of restoring from backup is the way to go,
then I also need to know if I should restore the extend.dat file as well, or
just keep what I have there now. I suppose that if I rename my current PST
file to different.pst, then do the restore from backup, I can then open the
restored file and I'll see a personal folder for different.pst there and can
then just drag the recent mail into the restored -- but I need to know if
that's not the right way to go about that... assuming this is even the best
way to proceed. Note that I don't care about losing the recent week's worth
of Calendar and Task entries since they're so few I can re-enter them.)

2. Export (to PST format I guess) the Tasks folder from the Outlook
installation that’s on another computer in our office (no Task entries are in
there) and then import that into my current Outlook. Again, I don’t care
about actual Task entries since there are too few to matter, so my only goal
here is to recreate the Tasks folder itself. I have a bad feeling this
approach is useless since it will probably only export the actual Task items
but not the folder itself.

THANKS!
