Restoring Entourage 2004 files after powerbook had hard drive replaced.

My powerbook died and I sent it into Apple and they replaced the hard
drive for me under my AppleCare warranty. Before I sent it I did a
manual data migration onto another mac using a firewire cable. Once I
received my powerbook back I reversed the process and replaced the data
back to where it was originally. I then reinstalled Office 2004. The
only problem is that I can't seem to get Entourage to inport my old
emails/data. I've tried using the import feature and directing it to
documents>microsoft 2004 user data>indentities>mail identity. BUT once
I get there the files are greyed out and I can't choose them. It
appears that the import is really designed for upgrading rather than an
Entourage 2004 to Entourage 2004 migration. Any help would be VERY much
appreciated!! Thank you.

You're right when you say that Entourage 2004 cannot import data from
Entourage 2004; there's no need for that, as a database created by the same
version of Entourage can be read natively. Try the following:

* make sure you run the latest version of Microsoft Office (11.2.3) by
running Microsoft AutoUpdate in your Applications folder.

* quit all Office applications.

* quit the database daemon. To do that, launch Activity Monitor, in
Applications/Utilities, and in the list of the currently active processes,
select Database Daemon. Then click on the "quit process" button in the upper
right corner.

* replace the files in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004
Identities/<your identity>/ (there should be four files, database, mailing
lists, rules and signatures) on your Powerbook with your old ones from the
other Mac. Note that this will overwrite any new Entourage items you may
have created on your Powerbook.

* relaunch Entourage. You should now have access to your old data again.

If this is not the case, post back.
