restoring outlook 98 files to windows xp

I had to reformat my computer. We installed windows xp. I have a copy of my
data from my windows 2000 pro. We were able to retrieve the data from
outlook by accessing the following path:
Application Data,
Microsoft,
Outlook,

The data comes up as an NK2 file, there is also a smaller SRS file.

I can't seem to find the location of where to replace these files on my new
data files.

I have tried exporting the files, but it's not working.

I also tried to back up the existing files, by exporting a folder to a file
with a .pst extention, then tried to import the file back, nothing happened.

I am so confused how to make current back ups. But mostly I a wondering if
we are able to retrieve our old files. Any help is welcomed. Thank you!
