Restoring Outlook info after replacing hard drive

Hi,
Had to replace my hard drive. I had backed up all my information before
doing so.
I have just reinstalled Outlook XP SBE & set up my Outlook to receive email.
Got my mail, but DUH, I need to find the file that has my OLD messages on it
from the other hard drive.

#1, can someone PLEASE tell me what the file is for incoming or stored email
& where to put it in the new Outlook AND
#2, what is the file that has my address book and where do I get it and put
it?
Thank you so much in advance,

This might be outdated info as I'm working on Outlook 2000 and Win 98. The
file where syncronized mail is stored is outlook.ost. If you use personal
folder files, it's outlook.pst (or *.pst). These files are (were) in
Windows/Local Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook. I'm sure there's a
win xp equivalent of this. You can probably copy that entire folder which
will also contain your address books.

I am actually trying to do the opposite with no luck. I have *.ost files
with tons of mail in them. The MS Exchange server with my mail account no
longer exists, and Outlook won't let me access the account unless I sync with
the server, which obviously I can't do. If you know of any solution for
this, please post!

Thanks,

J

Contacts live in the PST file as well.

You should have exported from the OST file (while working offline in that
mail profile) to a PST file before changing the profile - if you can't open
it and 'work offline' with the Exchange mailbox, the file has been orphaned
and can't be opened. See www.exchangerecovery.com or google for OST2PST (an
old freeware/shareware app that may or may not work for you)
