restrict access to only one directory

hi. I have a website on a private server. I want to restrict access to either
only one file or one directory. This is a national dog club website and the
board wants a restricted area for members only. Only one password and
username would be used by all.

I can set up a subdomain. I use APLUS server which is UNIX based. They tell
me that I cannot make & use .htaccess and .htpasswd files because the Front
Page Extensions will distort these files and cause problems (which they did).
The APLUS control panel has a special area to protect directories;however, it
cannot be used with Front page extensions.

When I go to FP Manager, it appears that I can only grant or restrict access
to the entire website when what I want to do is only restrict public access
to one directory or even one file.

Is this possible to do? My head is 'hurting' from trying things the past few
days.

If you have cPanel on your UNIX server it allows password protecting a
directory. Put your members only page in that password protected directory
and tell those you want to access it the username and password.
