Restrict time entry only on 1 day.

Hello Team,
Kindly let us know how to accomplish the following tasks
in MSP 2003 and 2007:
We have identified days when the project team members
will be capturing time.Project team members will only be capturing time on
Fridays.I would like to prevent team members from entering time on any other
day except on the Friday.

This is quite a strange request to me, could you elaborate us why you would
limit time entry to only one day in a week? As this will result in 40 hours
reported on 1 day, it would seem to me as unlogical.

for a solution in 2003: you need managed time periods where only the friday
periods are not closed. all other periods not containing fridays, would
always set to 'closed'.

for a solution in 2007: you need to use timesheets with periods defined like
described above. also set option 'Time entry by Timesheet only. Users will
sync to update tasks'.

cheers

Hello Sander,
I need people to only be able to log in on Friday's to enter time for
the week. Because during the week I make changes to the plans and
people are logging in and entering time during the week while I am busy
updating.

By only letting them to access the system on Friday they will be able to
capture time for the week.

I do have open periods where people can enter time against tasks for a
particular period.

Hi,

Seems I misunderstood your question, lets see what I can say about this one.

To be honest, I don't think you need the possibility to limit users on when
they access the system for tracking time.
As long as the project manager does not accept the task updates, these are
not incorporated in the planning.
So if a users spends 4 hours on monday to a specific task, it will not
change to a different task when he/she would enter the hours when it is
friday. This means the timing when he/she enters the hours are not reflecting
on your modifications on the planning.

do you agree with me on this?

Sander
